18 Nov Tips to Keep Your Holiday Package Deliveries Safe
Black Friday is just around the corner. If you’re among the millions of Americans who plans to do some online shopping this holiday season, you’ll also want to take steps to keep your packages safe. Below are just a few of our tips to ensure your deliveries don’t get stolen.
Add delivery instructions
Depending on who you order from, you may be able to add delivery instructions to the order. For example, some people will ask delivery drivers to leave items behind a large bush, or on the back side of the house, instead of on the front porch.
Take advantage of tracking
When you place your order, be sure to sign up for delivery alerts. Not only will this help you know what day your package will arrive, you can make sure someone is at home to receive what’s being dropped off.
Have your items delivered to a neighbor or where you work
Do you have retiree neighbors who are usually home during the day? Consider asking them if you can have your packages delivered to their home. If you don’t have neighbors who can receive your packages for you, ask your manager if you can have items delivered to your office. But remember- asking to receive 1-2 packages at your workplace is a lot different than asking to receive 10-12.
Consider a PO Box
If you want an extra layer of protection, consider renting a post office box. If you’re worried the company you’re ordering from won’t deliver to a PO box, there’s ways to get around that. Namely, instead of using your PO Box as the delivery address, use the street address for the post office, and list your PO Box as the unit number. For example, instead of writing your address as Jane Smith, PO Box 123, Your Town, FL, 12345, you’d use your name, the post office’s physical address, and add your box # as the unit number. An example of this would be: Jane Smith, 123 Main Street, Unit #123, Your Town, FL, 12345.
