If you’re thinking about hiring a home watch service, you likely understand the value in doing some due diligence. Your home is, after all, one of your most valuable assets. This means you’ll want to make sure you’re hiring the best possible company to look after it when you’re not around.
Below are a few of the questions you should ask potential companies before you decide which one to go with.
Are you licensed and insured?
If you wouldn’t hire an unlicensed roofer, you shouldn’t hire an unlicensed and/or uninsured home watch company. Reputable companies will be willing to present proof of licensing and insurance upon request.
Can you provide references?
One of the best ways to gauge the type and level of customer care you’ll receive is to ask for a list of references. You might consider asking if the company can give you references that have a last name that starts with a certain letter. This will help ensure that you get a true random sampling as opposed to references that are hand picked by the service provider.
How long have you been in business?
A home watch company that is experienced, or that has been started by someone who has a real estate or property management background is a company that knows what they are doing. If the company hasn’t been around very long or it’s being run by someone who has little to no experience in this industry, you may want to consider contacting someone else.
Do you have a Yelp, Facebook or Google+ page?
As we mentioned earlier, client references (and client testimonials) can be an invaluable resource when it comes to gauging the professionalism of a company, regardless as to the industry they’re in. Facebook, Yelp and even Google+ reviews can help you understand the level of care a particular company provides its clients.
