Keeping Your Home Safe This April

Keeping Your Home Safe This April

If you’ve decided to leave Southwest Florida for the next few weeks (or months), you may be wondering what you can do to keep your home safe in your absence. Having the neighbors clear the junk mail from your porch is good– but having a professional home watch service check in on your house or condo is better.

A cautionary tale

A few years ago, we spoke with a woman who told us a water damage horror story. She had been living in the ground floor, corner unit condo of a condominium complex. The home had two doors- one that exited into the center of the building and another that led to an outside porch.  One day, after spending several hours at the beach, she returned to find her porch was sopping wet.

“There was a closet on the porch, and that’s where the water heater was located,” she said. “When I walked onto the porch, I realized the indoor/outdoor carpeting was soaked. I immediately thought there was a problem with the hot water heater.”

It wasn’t until she opened her front door that she realized she had a much bigger problem.

“The pipe that brings clean water into the toilet had somehow failed, and the leak must have lasted for hours,” she continued. “Every room in the condo was filled with an inch of standing water. It was an absolute mess. Not only did the leak cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage, I wasn’t able to move back into my home for two weeks.”

At this point, you may be wondering what something like this would have to do with home watch. The answer- is everything.

When you’re thousands of miles away, you’ll want to have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that someone is watching your home on your behalf. When you hire a home watch service, you can rest assured that we’ll be preforming weekly inspections of your home to ensure that everything is as it should be.

We check to make sure your pipes aren’t leaking, your windows are closed and locked, your entryways are secure and that nothing has gone awry. If we do discover a problem, we’ll notify you immediately. We’ll even schedule a time to receive whatever repair person needs to come to your home.
