Activities to Keep You Busy While Social Distancing

It’s been several weeks since health officials started to recommend social distancing- and if you’re like most Americans, you’re probably starting to get a bit stir crazy. For this post, we wanted to highlight some of the ways you can keep busy while at home.

Visit the zoo

The Monterey Bay Aquarium and San Diego Zoo have several live cams. If you’re less into zoo animals but you would love to watch some cute puppies, you’re in luck. The Internet has a link for that. Click here to see a full range of animal livecams.

Take a class

If you’ve always wanted to go back to school, now is an excellent time to do it. In late-March, Yale University announced it would be offering its “Psychology and the Good Life” course, online, for free. The course focuses on the psychology of happiness, and the types of things people can do to cultivate healthy routines and practices. Approximately 25% of Yale students have taken the class, which has made it the most popular course in the university’s 300-year history.  Click here to enroll online.

Learn a language

Are you planning an overseas trip next year? Or, have you always wanted to learn French, Italian or Spanish, but you still have yet to start? Duolingo is a free language learning app that can be downloaded to any smartphone or tablet. Or, if you prefer to study on a computer, you can do that, too.

Get a head start on spring cleaning

One homeowner we spoke with said that social distancing has helped her tackle long delayed projects, such as cleaning out her closets, organizing her garage and re-arranging her living room. Now is a great time to dive into the spring cleaning projects that have been on your back burner.

Do a puzzle

If you’re itching to keep your mind busy, consider downloading a puzzle app to your smartphone or tablet. Puzzles can be extremely stimulating, and they can help keep you mentally agile.

Cook something special

AmazonFresh isn’t the only fresh food delivery service in town. Lots of smaller / independent grocers have also started to offer grocery delivery services. When you’ve figured out where you can order from, you can start to plan your menu. Have fun with it!
